Querétaro, Mexico perhaps because of its location, it has certainly been a leader in the history of Mexico. The Valley of Querétaro is the boundary between Aridoamérica and Mesoamerica, the lifestyles of these two contrasting and living areas from pre-Hispanic times. During the Viceroyalty, Santiago de Queretaro became the third city of the Kingdom, confirming its relevance and prominence. Needless to mention the later stages, it is well known the important role they played in Queretaro: Independence, the Reformation and the Revolution.
The historical center was named World Heritage by being an outstanding example of Spanish colonial city. In addition to the palatial architecture of civil and religious buildings of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, stressed the original urban layout. The layout of the streets shows the syncretism which operated for 300 years: Corregidora street toward the temple of La Cruz, the urban is organic and free, without grid; Corregidora onto Avenida Tecnológico, the design is uniform, checkerboard, not perfect, but regular.
It is not enough to go the Historic Center once: there will always be a place in which you'll want to sit and have coffee, a temple will want to return, a museum visit that happened to you. Along the way, surely, you will get all of this, the truth is that there are always details that stop you: look to the interior courtyard of a house, find a gargoyle on a balcony, or step back because the smell of a comal for gorditas was more urgent than your visit to the museum. Take it easy, Querétaro no hurry.
Queretaro has a wide range of events throughout the year. From the most popular outdoor when the streets are made for places of snacks, to the most intimate cultural festivals framed by the baroque elegance of the courtyard. There is something for every day of the week: plays, exhibitions, cinema, culinary samples, book presentations, conferences, etc..
